"I
have another modest proposal to make. Nothing too grand, just a simple
notion that might prove helpful to anyone trying to live a more
intentional spiritual life. My idea is this: declare one day a week as
your slow day. The rest of the week, you can run along at the usual
hectic pace of our generation, but give yourself and your family one day
to move according to a much older clock. Take time for breakfast
together. Walk somewhere instead of drive. Spend some time in the park
or garden. Have a long cup of tea and a chat. Have a sit down dinner.
Read before bed. Slow down for one day and give yourself time to just be
you."
The Rt. Rev. Steven Charleston, Choctaw
